A Better Option For Osteoarthritis Sufferers
Mainstream medicine's "new" solution for joint disease is the dangerous antipsychotic drug lithium.
You've probably heard of it…
It's usually prescribed to people with bipolar disorder. And it comes with serious side effects like hallucinations and seizures… it could even kill you.
Anyone who takes it has to be monitored closely. That's because there's only a small difference between a therapeutic dose, a toxic dose and a fatal dose.
And now they want to prescribe it to millions of osteoarthritis sufferers…
It's an outrage.
Especially when there are natural solutions for joint pain that are not only safer, but far more effective.
One of the very best is holy basil.
In India physicians call their natural healing school the "Mother of Science"… or Ayurveda.
At around 6,000 years old, Ayurveda is the oldest health care system in history.
And one of the most revered herbs in Ayurvedic medicine is holy basil. In Hindu mythology, the plant is believed to be an incarnation of the goddess Tulsi. It's said to provide divine protection and millions of Indian families keep a living holy basil plant in their homes. You also see holy basil adorning temples throughout the country.
Holy basil is a powerful anti-inflammatory. A study presented at the prestigious Royal Pharmaceutical Society found that holy basil reduced painful joint inflammation up to 73%. That's a lot better than most Big Pharma meds. And, even more impressively, the results lasted 24 hours after treatment.1
Holy basil contains dozens of compounds that reduce inflammation. One of the strongest is ursolic acid — a proven pain reliever and anti-inflammatory.
Ursolic acid inhibits the inflammatory COX-2 enzyme as well as 5-lox,2 which is activated by the stress hormone cortisol. 5-lox converts arachidonic acid (a bad fat made within the body from vegetable oils) to highly inflammatory leukotrienes. Leukotrienes increase joint pain.
Dr Al Sears has included it as a key ingredient in his new supplement Curcumin Triple Burn.
There are lots of ways you can get the benefits of holy basil. You can buy the dried plant at most health food stores and online. Holy basil supplements are also available. It's recommended to take 150 mg three times a day.
A nice way to enjoy holy basil is in a delicious tea. All you need are a few dried or fresh leaves.
- First, heat a quart of water in a pot. Do not bring water to a boil.
- Add 3 heaping teaspoons of leaves.
- Let sit for 5 minutes.
- Strain into a cup or glass.
It tastes great hot, but you should try holy basil tea over ice with a squeeze of fresh lemon. It's quite refreshing!
In south Florida you can grow holy basil year-round. But you can grow holy basil almost anywhere as an annual too.
Place the seeds between moist paper towels for a day, then plant just below the surface in rich potting soil. The seedling will sprout in about 10 days. Holy basil prefers full sunlight and plenty of water.
